Pembroke Pines, Fla. January 2023 – Aker Technology USA, a global manufacturer of innovative, competitively priced frequency control products, has released a new surface mount crystal oscillator that comes in a 2.5 mm x 2.0 mm ceramic package. This new SMEN-221 LVPECL (low voltage positive emitter coupled logic) oscillator provides a low jitter of 0.3 ps, making it an ideal component for a variety of critical communications equipment including network equipment, data centers and high-speed converters.

Because of their high noise immunity, differential transmission techniques, like LVPECL, are less influenced by line attenuation and can be used to transmit higher data rates over longer line lengths. The large voltage swing of LVPECL circuit technology contributes to the SMEN-221 impressively low jitter performance.

Eric Greenberg, Director of North American Sales for Aker Technology, noted, “Having access to an LVPECL oscillator that can handle high frequencies, while offering low jitter in an industry-standard package configuration enables the industry to develop advanced, high-end communications equipment that will operate reliable and efficiently. Our innovative, new SMEN-221 comes in a range of parameters that will cost-effectively fit the bill for most applications using fast protocols, like Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel.”

The crystal oscillator comes as a compact surface mount device (SMD) measuring 2.5 mm x 2.0 mm x 1.1 mm, with fast delivery available for samples and production runs. This is critical to expedited product development, as supply chain issues in electronics components is still proving problematic.

Stocked frequencies include 25 MHz, 100 MHz, 125 MHz, 155.52 MHz and 156.25 MHz. Frequency range is 13.50 MHz to 156.25 MHz and frequency stability ranges from ±25 ppm to ±100 ppm, with ±3 ppm aging per year. The SMEN-221 comes in several temperature options as well, including -20°C to 70°C; -40°C to 85°C; and -40°C to 125°C.
